The 5th Annual Triangle Brass Christmas Carol Event

By Keith Schengili-Roberts

Over the previous four years a few members from various local community bands have come together to perform an old Christmas tradition in the Beach Triangle: carol singing with brass accompaniment.

While ostensibly a fund-raising event for charity (last year it managed to raise $238 for cancer research), the event is mainly for fun and good cheer, and those caroled to are not required to give any donation for rousing performances of traditional Christmas carols.

The band and singers typically start off from Brookmount Road, head up to Dixon, and then back down Rainsford and along Queen. The length and duration of the event depends largely on the weather; one year it was cold enough that the valves on some of the brass instruments started to freeze. Last year, jolly old St. Nick turned up to greet the kids who came out to sing.

This year’s event will be held December 17th, starting at 7pm. If interested in joining in, please email Erika Schengili-Roberts at, or call 416-698-2995, or simply join the players as they travel through the Triangle. Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided, along with carol music song sheets.

So bring your best singing voice or brass instrument on December 17th!
