Neighbourhood Watch for the Triangle?

Recently in our little community there have been a few break-ins, vandalized properties and front porch theft. We are trying to put together a "Neighbourhood Watch Program" in the Triangle. What we are looking for is a "Captain" on each street. We need someone to volunteer (not much time) gathering emails or any way of communication with his or her street. This way once "The Program" takes place we can send an email to each Street Captain and they then can forward that email to their neighbours. If we can get at least 50% of the triangle involved then we are off to a great start.
Here are some tips that I found on line:
- Cut back bushes around windows and doors to prevent areas where thieves might attempt to get in unseen by neighbours.
- Use timers on your indoor and outdoor lights whether you are at home or not.
- The regularity of the lights going on and off may fool would-be thieves.
- Get to know your local crime prevention officer. Some will visit community meetings and offer tips on keeping your home safe.
- Get a neighbourhood buddy. They might visit your home while you're on vacation to pick up the paper and take out the trash.
- A missing garbage can in front of your home on a regular garbage day can be a sign that you are away.
- Get to know your neighbours. You might like them.
Please forward your email address to me at if you would like to volunteer or just get involved in our neighbourhood program.
