The 55 Division Community Police Liaison Committee (55 CPLC) has had an active winter.
Among the most recent developments:
- new permit parking regulations. Permitted vehicles that have not been moved for seven days are now subject to ticketing and subsequent towing. Should the vehicle be towed, the parking permit will be cancelled.
- folks holding un-permitted community events (that is, an event that does not require a formal city permit) are being asked to make sure to inform the parking authority of the date and time of your event so appropriate enforcement discretion can be applied. (Call 311)
- there have been a number of fraudulent fund-raising efforts in the area. Several involve youth going door-to-door soliciting donations for supposed academic efforts. Another involves telephone calls requesting donations to help the Toronto Police take needy children to a three-ring circus. These are fraudulent.
- a recent ‘driving while using a cell phone’ blitz saw 389 charges laid in 55 Division during February. The courts are taking these charges very seriously (often greatly increasing the set $155.00 fine) and insurance companies are reportedly increasing insurance premiums upon conviction.
- a bicycle and pedestrian safety/law enforcement blitz is scheduled for the month of May.
