In my second year as chair of the Beach Triangle Residents Association I thank all the volunteers who served on the board, and Jennifer Hamilton and Tanya Vancea who have left the board. I also thank the Triangle Community Group for the 2011 Funfest and ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ events that they organized.

Some of the highlights of the past year include the following:

We have joined the Greater Beach Neighbourhood Association, which will present a common voice for the resident associations in the beach in the matters of city planning. We have seen a large outcry about the ‘Condo Boom’ and the lack of planning.

It has been a very busy summer with the visioning study meetings well attended by residents of the Triangle. Many residents had very creative ideas on how the old Beaches Urban Design Guidelines should be updated. The new guidelines should be approved by council by the time you receive this newsletter. We are monitoring the construction of the One Rainsford condo, which should be finished by the spring, plans for the proposed 200 Woodbine condo, and submission of plans for the former Shell station property.

We sponsored and set up an information booth at the Police Week picnic in Woodbine Park. The newsletter is published twice a year, and advertising in it is currently the sole source of revenue for the BTRA. A BTRA web site is also managed and monitored.

Board volunteers have worked hard to represent our community at many city-sponsored meetings and forums. We make our concerns known to the TTC, Police, Ashbridges Bay Sewage Treatment Plant, and the City Works Department. We belong to the Confederation of Resident Ratepayer Associations (CORRA).

In conclusion, I also thank John Ellis and Jeff Levitt for their work on the visioning study on our behalf.
