President’s Report (Winter 2014)

Dec 15th, 2014 | By | Category: Winter 2014

Congratulations to Mary-Margaret McMahon on her win in the municipal election.

It has been a fairly quiet summer and fall in the Triangle with the exception of the Kingston road track work. Rainsford One is finally finished construction and I have met some of the new residents. There is no word yet on when construction will begin on the next phase. Upgrading of water sevice lines in the Triangle is complete so for a while we have a break from the nonstop noise and dust.

The beach as a whole has been busy with the new LCBO store open, the Bellfair church condo construction almost complete, with Shopper’s Drug Mart moved there from the Queen and Lee location. The Licks site condo construction is underway. Up for lease is the ‘Champions’ off-track horse race wagering site. I expect big box retail to fill the 29,000 square foot site, but retail is a hard go in the Beach with many store fronts empty for more than five years. The lot immediately east of the apartment building at Queen St. E. and Woodbine is under application for a new office building, but thankfully this one will have to conform to the Urban Design Guidelines.

On a final note, I sincerely thank our former BTRA director, Layton Stewart, for his 29 years of service on the BTRA Board. He has stepped down as Treasurer, with the position now filled by Patricia Blythe.
