Stefan Poquet, co-owner of Sauvignon Bistro, attended the April 2 BTRA Board Meeting to present plans for a licence application to build a patio on city-owned property on Rainsford Road. He reported that four previous applications have been declined, largely due to failure to obtain at least 50 per cent support from Rainsford residents between Queen and Dixon.

In addition to opposition from nearby Rainsford residents, there is concern that new residents in the One Rainsford condo will also be subject to the sound and hubbub of the patio, but may not have an opportunity to express an opinion on it.

A 1.8 metre high wooden sound barrier on the north end would be required and the structure must be capable of being dismantled (although Mr. Poquet doubts that they would be required to do so, based on experience with the patio on Queen).

They would be required to cease serving at 10:00 pm and have no clientele in the patio after 11:00 pm. Mr. Poquet confirmed that the licence remains with the address, but assured that he is committed to continuing with this business until retirement. There will be an awning or an umbrella (two square umbrellas would cover the space). Smoking is not permitted with awning overhead and will most likely be prohibited altogether by the end of the year.
